Mention the name ‘Dan Bolton’ in Blossom, Texas, and you’ll hear story after story about a man who sold produce, mainly watermelons, from a shed on the side of the road.

“Dan’s shed was the staple in the community,” said Greater Blossom Development Association member, Deanna Ramsey.

Dan Bolton sold his vegetables from a farmer’s market type shed for decades.

“He was known for driving his tractor to the shed and I remember as a kid always going to Dan’s shed to get watermelon and produce,” added Deanna.

In 2000, Dan Bolton passed away and with the shed deteriorating rapidly over the years, it had to be torn down.

“A memorial was put in its place but over time the elements destroyed that memorial as well and earlier this year it had to be torn down.”

However, The Greater Blossom Development Association had a different idea and with the help of many locals, donating their time and supplies, re-building Dan’s shed went from an idea to reality.

“Cody and Wes Woodard did all the prep work on trusses, while Tommy and I provided the pipe and angle iron,” said Deanna.

“The City and GBDA provided the sheet metal for the roof, All-State Concrete poured the floor, and Clint Dorries, and Mitchell and Sabrina Thaten donated materials for the floor also. Hart Electric will be providing electricity to it.”

“Earlier this week, we had Cody Woodard, Tommy Ramsey, Patrick Williams, Aaron Williams, and Darren Williams out there welding. Also, helping hands included Wes Woodard, Ryan Gordon, and Kevin Anderson.”

In less than six hours, ‘Dan Bolton’s Shed’ was back and will be available to the community to use as a farmers market.
