The City of Paris is looking for citizens who want to make a difference in the City by volunteering their time and knowledge by serving on one of the city’s Boards and Commissions.
The City is accepting applications for positions on the Building Board of Appeals, TIRZ (Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Board), and the Traffic Commission.
Applications must be received no later than Monday, July 24, 2023. Board appointments will be made on August 14, 2023, at the regular City Council meeting. BUILDING BOARD OF APPEALS
No. of Members: 5 regular & 2 alternates [Paris Code of Ordinances Section 4.02.002] Length of Term: 3 yrs. Appointed By: City Council Regular Meeting Day: TBD Meeting Time: TBD p.m. Meeting Location: Council Chamber Duties/Purpose: The board shall hear and decide appeals of orders, decisions or determinations made by the building official or fire code official relating to the application and interpretation of the technical provisions of the building, existing building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, and fire codes for both residential and commercial construction as adopted by the City. Qualifications of members: The five member board shall be: (1) One State of Texas licensed master electrician with at least five years of experience in the electrical trade; (2) One State of Texas licensed master plumber with at least five years of experience in the plumbing trade; (3) One member shall be an engineer, architect or design professional in the City with five years of experience; (4) One member shall be a general contractor with at least five years of experience as a general contractor; and (5) One member shall be a State of Texas licensed mechanical contractor with at least five years of experience in the mechanical trade. The alternate members shall qualify for one or more of the positions The building official and fire code official shall serve ex-officio, non-voting members of the board.

TIRZ (TAX INCREMENT REINVESTMENT ZONE BOARD)
No. of Members: 5 Length of Term: 2 yrs. Appointed By: City Council Regular Meeting Day: TBD Meeting Time: TBD. Meeting Location: Council Chamber Duties/Purpose: Making recommendations to City Council regarding the administration of the zone, preparing & adopting a project plan & a reinvestment zone financing Plan for the Zone, Implementing the Project Plan and Reinvestment Zone Financing Plan, enter into reimbursement agreements, and issue tax increment obligation bonds. The Board shall consist of three non-staff members who must be residents of Lamar County (TIRZ Bylaws and Tax Code Subsection 311.003 (3)(1)(A) & (B)), or a resident of an adjacent county, or own property in the zone, must be 18 years of age and be a registered voter; and two staff members shall be included in board membership (TIRZ Bylaws).

TRAFFIC COMMISSION
No. of Members: 7 Length of Term: 3 yrs. Appointed By: City Council Regular Meeting Day: 1st Tuesday Meeting Time: 5:15 p.m. Meeting Location: Municipal Court Duties/Purpose: Reviews requests for traffic control measures and proposes measures designed to minimize traffic safety problems resulting from vehicular traffic in Paris. Members must be residents of the city, and qualified voters.
