Lamar County Republican Party Chairman Scott Hommel on Tuesday announced his resignation from the position following claims he made racial remarks on gab.com, a social media website, in 2021.
Screenshots of the comments under the name, “Scott Hommel for TX State Rep” were shared on social media last week, however, Hommel has repeatedly denied making the racial slurs.
Following the controversy, a debate scheduled for Thursday evening, organized by the Lamar County Republican Party, was canceled after all three candidates — U.S. Rep Gary VanDeaver, Chris Spencer, and Dale Huls — said they would not attend.
1st Street Media, owners of 104.3FM, 98.9FM, and NewsRadio 1250AM, said on Tuesday they would no longer air The Red State Report with Scott Hommel, a local political news and opinion program, effective immediately.
This is a developing story.
