It’s that spooky time of the year again, and time for that annual question: What’s the most popular Halloween candy in each state?
As the leaves change and pumpkins take their places on doorsteps, it’s no surprise that’s Reese’s Cups holds the top position (nationwide) but in a dramatic twist, M&M’s are inching closer to that coveted #1 position, this year, coming in second.
Rounding out the Most Popular Halloween Candy Nationwide are Hot Tameles, Skittles, Sour Patch Kids, Starburst, Hershey Kisses, Candy Corn, Hershey Mini Bars, and Snickers.
In Texas, Sour Patch Kids holds the top position, selling a whopping 947,426 pounds, Reese’s Cups came in second with 908,876 pounds, and Starburst was third with 904,815 pounds.
But, if you think all candies are a treat, think again.
These candies made it to ‘Top 10 the Worst Halloween Candy’ list – (counting down from 10th place) Tootsie Rolls, Bit-O-Honey, Licorice, Smarties, Mary Janes, Wax Cola Bottles, Peanut Butter Kisses, Necco Wafers, Candy Corn, and Circus Peanuts.
According to the National Retail Federation, Halloween candy spending should hit a whopping $3.6 billion this year — that’s a 16% jump that blows away previous highs.
