A Chili and Stew Cook-Off to raise money for local teen, Zack Lester, is being held this Saturday, March 17th, at the Love Civic Center starting at 10 a.m.

Lester was involved in a vehicle accident, which saw him ejected 30 feet from his truck on January 16th.

Lester’s aunt, Amanda Lester, said he has made progress since the accident.

“He has been moved to Cook’s Children’s hospital in Fort Worth and they are working on getting him off the ventilator. They are talking about getting rid of his feeding tube as well, but the doctor told him one thing at a time,” said Amanda.

The family said Zack is in a motorized wheelchair that he is able to control with his left hand and he recently made his first trip to the gym where they started therapy with him.

“From here he will be going to Baylor to continue more intensive therapy and coming home hopefully after that,” Amanda said, “He remains in good spirits for the most part. He has good days and bad days. He has some tingling in his foot like it’s asleep, but it’s on and off.”

The Chili and Stew Cook-Off event will also have a kids corner and there will be a live and silent auction.

“We also have live bands and Old Way Rods has gotten a group together to bring out their cars,” Amanda said.

They will take vendors and cooks until 7:30 a.m. the morning of the event and all proceeds will go to help with expenses towards the things Zack and his family will need when he returns home.

Entries for the Chili and Stew Cook-Off are $50 and vendor fees are $75. Vendor booths with be 10 x 10 under the Pavillion.

“We look forward to a full day of fun and people who want to come out and show support for Zack, as well as, his family,” said Amanda.
