Universal Fabricating has been recognized as Industry of the Year by the Paris Economic Development Corporation (PEDC) at the 121st Annual Lamar County Chamber of Commerce Celebration.
This award highlights the company’s significant contributions to the economic growth, job creation, and community development of Lamar County.
Founded in Kingsville, Ontario, Canada, Universal Fabricating marked its U.S. expansion by selecting Lamar County in 2023. This decision brought 100 high-wage manufacturing jobs and over $16 million in new investment to the area. Maureen Hammond, Executive Director of PEDC, noted that this is the first substantial foreign direct investment in the county in over 20 years, underscoring its importance to the local economy.
“Since you have opened this facility, you have made impressive strides in job creation, investment, and economic impact that have exceeded expectations,” Hammond said. “Universal represents the positive impact that our economy needs to continue thriving and growing.”
Universal Fabricating now employs over 100 team members, with plans to generate a projected $300 million economic impact over the next decade. “Winning the Industry of the Year award is not just a recognition of our hard work; it’s a testament to our team’s dedication, innovation, and commitment to excellence,” said Neil Harms, President and Owner of Universal Fabricating.
The following day, Universal Fabricating hosted a luncheon to celebrate with their employees, PEDC Board members, and local officials, culminating in the unveiling of a commemorative banner celebrating this achievement.
Universal Fabricating’s facility in Sumner, Texas, serves the automotive, airport, and logistics industries across the U.S. and Mexico. The company’s mission extends beyond economic growth, aiming to provide meaningful careers and foster family support within the Paris community.
“We are proud to name Universal Fabricating as Industry of the Year and are thankful for their investment in our region,” said Hammond.
