North Lamar High School seniors Cody Stevens and Rhett Bestul, officially signed to play football for Austin College on Monday.
Cody Stevens, who will be joining Austin College as a linebacker, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, citing proximity to home and the college’s academic reputation as key factors in his decision. Quoting John 13:6-7, Stevens reflects on the importance of faith and patience in his journey ahead. He is the son of Chris and Chancey Stevens, with a sibling, Cayla Stevens, and grandparents Allen & Rene Stevens, Will & Missy Armstrong, Roger & Stephanie Bryan.
Rhett Bestul, set to play as a running back for Austin College, emphasized his aspiration for a quality medical education alongside his football endeavors. Bestul is the son of Regina and Ricky Bestul, grandson of Virginia Huckaba, and brother of Trever Bestul and Meagan Larkin.
Coach Brenton Whitaker said, “After three years of playing varsity football, both Cody Stevens and Rhett Bestul have signed to continue their football career at Austin College. This has been a goal they’ve been working towards for years and it’s awesome to see them make it official this morning. The impact they made on North Lamar football will be felt for years to come and I’m excited to see what they accomplish these next four years at the collegiate level.”
