A structure fire at 2142 W. Sherman Street on Tuesday lead to about 12 homes without power at about 4:40 p.m.
Once on scene, Paris Fire Department crews reported heavy smoke coming from the home, and Engine 3 started the attack from the carport. Engine 3 and 1 crews then made entry into the home, extinguishing the fire and performed a primary search while Rescue 1 crew secured utilities. Atmos and Oncor were contacted to cut off the home’s gas and electricity.
Paris Fire Department’s Quint 4 crew helped with overhaul and cleared a secondary search of the home.
According to Paris Fire Department reports, a power line had broken at the pole, appearing to have an electrical arc feed back to the home’s meter box, potentially causing the fire in the carport into the attic. The home had heavy damage to its carport leading into the attic.
Paris Fire Department quickly responded to and extinguished the fire within an hour and 25 minutes.
Crews then responded to another working structure fire near 456 NW 14th St.
