A recent speed survey conducted on FM 79 at Buck Dandy Trailers revealed 59.8% of vehicles were speeding, with 19 vehicles going more than 35+ mph over the limit.
Precinct 3 Constable Steven Hill said during the survey, there were 8,018 cars that passed the location of the survey, held from Nov. 11 to Nov. 17, 2023.
“There’s not a high number of wrecks on that road that I am aware of,” said Hill. “But there are several houses close to the road and a car could easily come off the roadway.”
The survey results concluded that of the 2,651 vehicles speeding, 2,395 were 15 mph or less over the speed limit.
Another 168 vehicles were 20 mph over the speed limit, 55 vehicles were 25 mph over, 14 vehicles were 30 mph over, and 19 vehicles were 35+ mph over the speed limit.
“The results are from only a quarter mile stretch of a 15 mile long road and the speed limit is 55 mph in that area.”
Hill cautioned drivers that wild animals frequently cross the road in that area and one could “run out in front a vehicle and cause damage or injury.”
“Please remember that people live in the area and I know that everyone runs late at times but please be safe this holiday season and I pray that everyone makes it to their destination safely. Also, please say a special prayer for those in our community that have just recently lost their lives in vehicle accidents.”
