Greenville authorities are assessing the damage this morning after a reported tornado swept through the county leaving widespread damage.

While the National Weather Service is yet to confirm a tornado did touch down, severe storms left a trail of downed trees and power lines and damage to buildings. The Highland Terrace Baptist Church suffered extensive damage in the storm also

Police, sheriff’s deputies, and DPS troopers have been working together to keep some areas blocked off that have down power lines and polls.

The Greenville Police Department updated locals this morning stating, “The downtown area has numerous barricades along with road closures. Please do not drive around in the downtown area to view the damage. There are still many trees and power lines down and it is still dangerous. Power is still out at several locations around town as well as many traffic lights. Drive safely.”

Officials said there were no reports of serious injuries.
