UPDATE: Body found on Plum Street identified

UPDATE Friday, June 29th: The man found in a creek beside his residence in the 2000 block of Plum Street has been identified as 64-year-old Wendell Willis Hamil.

“Preliminary autopsy reports indicate no findings of blunt trauma or an indication of foul play<‘ said Chief of Police Bob Hundley.

The investigation will continue as the officers await other toxicology test results.


The Paris Police Department is investigating after a body was found in a ditch in the 2000 block of Plum Street on Wednesday afternoon.

“We received a welfare check call at a residence due to a door being open,” said Chief of Police Bob Hundley. “We found the deceased close to this residence.”

Paris PD believes the body may have been there for a few days.

“There is no obvious injury and we are awaiting autopsy results for the manner of death and positive identification.”

So sad. Wendell was a PHS 1973 classmate. Condolences to his sister Linda and the rest of his family.
