Sandy McMellon, 69, of Powderly, passed away peacefully August 13, 2018, surrounded by loved ones at Paris Regional Medical Center.

Roden-Pryor Funeral Directors will conduct graveside rites 10:00 am Thursday, August 16, 2018, at Evergreen Cemetery with John W. Smith officiating. A time of visitation will be held 6:30 – 7:30 pm, Wednesday, August 15, 2018, in the Gene Roden Memorial chapel at the funeral home.

Sandra Ann Smith McMellon was born February 7, 1949, to John L. Smith and Charlene Elizabeth Slater Smith in Denton, Texas. She was, by nature, a kind-hearted caregiver that brought light to every room she entered. She enjoyed reading and spending time outdoors, no matter if it was organized gardening or diabolical hedge trimming with a riding lawn mower. Sandy accomplished much in her career as an EMT-1 for Hopkins County EMS Service and as a lab tech for Dr. R. Bercher and Dr. J. Emmitte. She was instrumental in setting up the EMS service for the Pilot Point community. She met the love of her life and travel partner, Charles “Chuck” McMellon, and the two were married July 11, 1975. Their life together was full of love and laughter that they eagerly shared with family and friends. Whether it was an impromptu dinner with life-long friends or aggravating her husband, Chuck; Sandy made the best of everything life brought to her and her family. She was of the Christian faith and was a member of the Church of Christ. Sandy’s smile and warmth will be greatly missed by many.

Preceding her in death were her parents, John L. Smith and Charlene E. Slater Smith.

Survivors include her husband of forty-three wonderful years, Charles “Chuck” McMellon of Powderly; a daughter, Cortney McMellon Neilson and husband, Jeff, of Sherman; a son, Charles “C.J.” McMellon and wife, KayLynn, of Powderly; a brother, John W. Smith and wife, Sharlynn, of Austin; and five grandchildren, Shelby McMellon Maynard and husband, Nathan, of Paris, Abigail Liddell of Sherman, Lillian McMellon of Powderly, Charley McMellon III, of Powderly, and Emily McMellon of Powderly.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Paris Regional Medical Center and Paris EMS for the exceptional care and comfort Sandy received in her time of illness.
