Paris Police responded to a welfare concern in the 3200 block of N Main St at 8:48 P.M. on January 21, 2023. The caller reported that a man was asleep in a vehicle. Officers made contact with 43 year old Jason Scott Preusse. Officers observed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and conducted a search. Preusse was found to be in possession of more than 1 gram but less than 4 grams of methamphetamine. Preusse was arrested and later placed in the Lamar County Jail.
Paris Police stopped a vehicle in the 10 block of W Washington St at 11:02 P.M. on January 21, 2023 for a vehicle registration violation. The driver, 53 year old Dorothy Thacker Sims, of Paris, was found to have numerous Municipal Court warrants. As Sims was being arrested, the officer observed her attempting to give the passenger a prescription pill bottle that had no label. The bottle was found to contain 8 Hydrococone pills. Sims was charged with possession of a controlled substance of more than 4 grams. She was booked into the city jail awaiting transfer to the Lamar County Jail.
Paris Police responded to the 2400 block of Highland Rd at 9:32 P.M. on January 22, 2023 in reference to a burglary of a residence. The victim reported that Mystie Joyce Smith, 24, of Powderly, came to the residence earlier this evening and walked in through the back door. Smith asked to use the bathroom and was in there longer than she should have been. After Smith left, the victim discovered that 5 ear-rings were missing from the bathroom. The victim also found that someone had broken into the shop in the backyard and had stolen a 2011 white Dodge Nitro vehicle. At 11:29 P.M. on January 22, 2023, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of E Washington St. in reference to a security check. Officer arrived and noticed the white Dodge Nitro vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier in the night. Smith and 24 year old Rona Shae Avance, of Powderly were found in the vehicle.
Officers also found methamphetamine inside the vehicle. Smith was arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Both Smith and Avance were charged with possession of a controlled substance. Smith was also found to have an outstanding parole violation warrant. Both were later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.
Paris Police responded to 180 calls for service and arrested 12 persons over the weekend ending at midnight on January 22, 2023.
