The Paris Police Citizens Police Academy Alumni treated members of the department to a Christmas Lunch on Friday December 14th at the police station.
At such an appropriate event, Neil Barnes was named the 2018 Volunteer of the year for the CPAA.
Neil is a graduate of CPA Class 2017-9 and has been volunteering for the organization from the time of graduation for the last two years. He currently also serves the association as treasurer.
“Neil has been an outstanding volunteer for the organization and spends a lot of time and energy for the association by working special events and doing additional patrols,” Chief of Police Bob Hundley
The department also named the department annual award winners for 2018 during the luncheon. These awards are special in that the nominations for these awards and the voting come from the employees of the department. It is a special honor when those you work with are the ones recognizing your service.
The ‘Top Gun’ firearms award is not voted for. The officer who wins this trophy has demonstrated expertise in firearms qualification over the year by outscoring or out shooting all other officers. For the second year in a row, Officer Caleb Peek is the top firearms qualifier for the department. Officer Peek has been with the department for two and one-half years and is assigned to the patrol division.
As stated before, nominations for these other awards come from all the employees of the department and those nominated are voted on. This year we had a tie for the Civilian Employee of the year 2018, so both were awarded; Jennifer Browning and Jennifer Bacorn. Jennifer Browning is one of our senior 9-1-1 emergency dispatchers and has been with the department for eleven years. Jennifer Bacorn works as our video technician in property and evidence and has been with the department just a little shy of 2 years.
Our Rookie Officer of the Year 2018 was awarded to Officer Tierra Ricks. Officer Ricks began the police academy in July of 2017 and in the last year and a half has already distinguished herself as an officer assigned to the patrol division.
The Officer of the Year for 2018 went to Brenton (B.A.) Middleton. B.A. has been with the department for two and one half years and is assigned to the patrol division. B.A. has a strong work ethic and works well with all the personnel of the department and citizens he encounters.
“These awards are important to the department and the citizens we serve. All of this year’s recipients seem to have that common thread of caring about what they do for the community, supporting each other and supporting each other’s mission. We are proud of all of our personnel in the department and what they do every shift. It is great to take a minute and have your own co-workers recognize you as well,” said Hundley
