The Paris Police Department is honoring fallen officers this Christmas with a clear ornament hung on their tree to represent those who have lost their lives in 2018.

“I was really impressed that Kelly Bangs, one of our 9-1-1 operators and an LEO wife, along with other dispatchers came up with the idea,” said Chief of Police Bob Hundley.

There are 130 clear glass ornaments on their tree displayed in the communications centers with each officers name and EOW date handwritten on them.

“The Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons are the best times for most families and the worst times for families who have lost loved ones,” said Hundley.  “Law Enforcement is a family and when we lose one, no matter where the tragedy takes place, we feel it, we know it, we understand it.”

The ornaments being clear glass allows people to read the names and the end of watch date.

“By keeping these officers remembered, their sacrifice and the family’s sacrifice reminds us all these lives meant something, what they did meant something to their communities and what they did meant something to law enforcement.”

Thank you Kelly Bangs and those who put this memorial together and thank you to every officer for your service.
