During Monday nights Paris City Council meeting, Mihir Pankaj was elected Paris’ new Mayor by fellow councilmembers and Gary Savage as Mayor Pro-Tem.
“I am truly honored and appreciative of all the love and support I’ve received! It is a surreal moment for me, and it still hasn’t really hit me just yet,” said Mankaj.
Both Pankaj, who served as Mayor Pro-Tem this past year, and Reginal B. Hughes, outgoing Mayor, were nominated with the final vote being being 4-3, in favor of Pankaj.
Pankaj, who has two children with his wife, Krishna, is the owner of Hampton by Hilton – Paris, Texas, Days Inn – Paris, Texas, and recently opened Home2 Suites by Hilton at Paris Conference & Event Center.
“As a young boy growing up, all I ever wanted to do was to make an impact on my hometown and fellow Citizens! This is an awesome opportunity and I look forward to serving to the best of my ability. I am always here to serve, and want to do whatever I can to help this Community thrive. My fellow Council Members make up a great Team that want to work hard for Paris, and continue to move the ball forward.”
Hughes and Gary Savage were nominated for Mayor Pro-Tem with the final vote being 3-4, in favor of Savage.
“Congratulations to Gary Savage for being voted as Mayor Pro Tem. I’m looking forward to working together and seeing all that we can accomplish with the entire Team,” added Pankaj. “A big thank you to someone I look up to, Reginald B. Hughes! He and I have grown so much this last year, serving as Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem! Reggie has become a lifelong best friend, and I’m so thankful for all the ups and downs we’ve been through.”
Both Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem are one year terms.
