In an Emergency City Council meeting on Thursday morning, council members passed a motion to move forward in increasing the budget by $510,000 to provide a drive-thru testing facility to Lamar County residents.
Council members heard from both Paris Mayor Steve Clifford and Dr. Hashmi regarding the medical pros and cons of the test’s and it’s capabilities before members openly discussed their opinions and questions.
In conclusion, the motion was passed 6-0, however, Mayor Clifford instructed Interim-City Manager Gene Anderson to confirm with the company providing the tests that they could be delivered in a timely manner.
Additionally, where testing would be done and who it would be provided for (Paris residents only or Lamar County residents as a whole) is yet to be decided upon.
