Crews battled a fire for more than 13 hours on Monday that burned an estimated 5,335 acres, threatening multiple structures, in Choctaw and Pushmataha County.
According to reports, the fire started around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, in Choctaw County on E1980 Road, burning into the Messer Bottoms threatening multiple structures, then across the Kiamichi River into Pushmataha County in Belzoni Bottoms.
The Rattan Fire Department said the fire was contained at 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
“A big thank you to Oklahoma Forestry Services, U.S. Core of Engineers, Messer Fire Department, Spencerville Fire Department, Cloudy Fire Department, and Rattan Fire Department for helping with this large fire,” said RFD.
Crews will continue to stay on scene for the next several days to monitor the area.
