After a social media post claiming a woman impersonating a nurse stole a newborn from the hospital, McCurtain County Memorial Hospital has said the post is “unequivocally false and not true.”
The post was shared on the McCurtain County areas group page on Facebook with a photo, stating, “Community alert. This woman impersonated herself as a nurse and stole a 2day old baby boy from a local hospital in (McCURTAIN CO). She was caught on camera and is on the loose and if anyone sees her please report this to your nearest police station and share this post so we help the 27year old first-time mother with reuniting with her son.”
As the post quickly spread, CEO Brian Whitfield called the hospital and the Chief Nursing Officer to make sure all babies and their mothers were accounted for.
“All babies and their mothers are accounted for. In fact, all babies and their mothers are behind locked doors,” said Whitfield on Sunday night. “Hospital security was notified of the post. I immediately ordered a count of all mothers and babies to ensure all were accounted for and had security to check all photo ID badges.”
“Our mothers and their precious little ones are safe. The person responsible for the posting should be ashamed at the panic this caused. Our nurses and physicians are saving lives and work extremely hard to tend to our patients. Things such as this do not make our jobs any easier.”
Whitfield thanked the public who called about the post and reiterated all their patients are safe.
