The Britney’s Steppin’ Out Dance Studio Competition Team ended its 2019 competition year with a bang; bringing home a National Title.

“My heart could explode,” said owner and artistic director Britney Drake, “I owe all the credit to my fabulous dancers. I sat and watched them come to life, commit to the character, and truly dance from their hearts.”

BSODS was among 384 dancers from 20 studios to converge on The Mansion Theatre in Branson, MO, for the 2019 Edge Nationals over the weekend.

The team won the National Title in the musical theatre category, along with the ‘Commitment to Character’ award, for their, ‘Freak Flag’ performance.

Along with the National Title, BSODS brought home a slew of awards including:

Best Costume: “Lil’ Diva Team” – Baby’s Got Her Blue Jeans On

Top Entertainment: “Diamond, Emerald, Ruby, Lil’Diva Teams” – Freak Flag

Showcase Awards: “Diamond Team” – Reckless Love, “Diamond, Emerald, Ruby, Lil’ Diva Team” – Freak Flag

Edge Award: 1st Runner Up – “Diamond, Emerald, Ruby, Lil’Diva Teams” – Freak Flag.

The studio as a whole was also awarded the Sportsmanship Award; which is the best award to receive at a competition.

“This speaks volumes not only about our dancers but about our fabulous parents,” said Jeff L. Cochran, BSODS assistant director, “This award goes to one studio out of every studio attending and it’s chosen by the backstage manager, so it’s given to a studio who is the most polite and professional, and has the all-around best attitude.”

Drake said while she is sad to see the season end, she is thankful for the memories the team made this week.

“We give all the glory to Jesus for HE is the true judge and we couldn’t do what we do with HIS blessing in our life.”
