Employees of Turner Industries pulled from their pockets this summer to support the Downtown Food Pantry and provided enough money for 5,660 meals.
“These hard-working folks are known to be very generous and this illustrates that even further. This will go a long way toward hunger relief for Lamar County residents,” said executive director Allan Hubbard.
The pantry distributes food to anyone in need Tuesdays from 1:30-4:30 p.m. and Thursdays 8:30-11:45 a.m. at 124 W. Cherry St.
Since 2009, the Downtown Food Pantry has served the hungry of Lamar County, Texas.
“Our area has one of the highest food-insecurity rates in the state at 23%,” said Hubbard, “This means almost 1 in 4 or 11,500 people in our community are ‘struggling to avoid hunger.'”
