Larry Gene Hutchings, 78, of Tyler, Texas, passed away on June 21, 2026.
Born on August 22, 1947, in Paris, Texas. Larry was the beloved son of Norman Enloe and Vessie Carmon Hutchings.
Larry served his country through the US Army, from 1964 to 1970, and turned 18 while in Vietnam. Larry had many occupations throughout his life, from day laboring in cotton fields for county fair money, to his first “real job” as an usher at the Plaza Theater, to his most hated job of roofing with his dad, to his first skilled job of welding, and after graduating with his bachelors worked as an insurance adjuster before retiring.
In Larry’s own words: “My greatest achievement in life was the birth of my four children. I have other achievements, but these are the greatest. Secondly, I would say meeting and marrying my wife. I give her credit for everything I have accomplished.”
Even through years of battling cardiac amyloidosis, Larry had an amazing sense of humor, he stated his favorite joke was, “A man went to see a doc, and the doc said “I have terrible news, you only have six months to live, the man asked the doc what could he do and the doc said “pack up and move to Beaumont, Texas, it’ll be the longest six months you’ve ever lived.”
Larry also enjoyed several hobbies: playing guitar, collecting guns, researching genealogy, bird watching, coin collecting, and was a black belt in karate.
He is preceded in death by his parents Norman Enloe and Vessie Carmon Hutchings and father and mother-in-law Robert Harley Dunn and Edith Kizer Dunn. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Sarah Hutchings.
