Lamar County Meals On Wheels are holding their annual dog and cat food collection drive this Friday for their residents with pets.
“Many of our residents have pets, they’re like family to them, so we started this a year ago to help collect food for their dogs and cats also,” said Meals on Wheels kitchen manager Joey Renfro.
The idea started after the director of Meals on Wheels, Shelly Braziel noticed residents were giving their food to their pets.
“Many of us have noticed when checking on folks that some of them are giving their meals to their pets,” said Joey. “That’s when we started the pet food drive so that our residents can eat their meals and their pets don’t go hungry either.”
Meals On Wheel will be set up in the Home Depot parking lot this Friday, August 3rd, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
“While we will accept anything that is donated, we are requesting dry food only,” added Joey.

Lamar County Meals On Wheels serves nearly 1,000 residents in throughout Lamar, Delta, Hopkins and Red River Counties.
