Kia is recalling about 427,407 2020-2023 Telluride, and some 2024 models, because they might roll away when put in park.
According to the recalls, the problem is caused by an assembly error that may cause two important drivetrain components – the intermediate shaft and right front driveshaft – to not fully engage.
If this happens, drivers may also notice grinding noises, vibration, or noise when hitting bumps or turning. They may also find it difficult to shift into drive or reverse.
Kia says that dealers will install a software update to automatically engage the parking brake when necessary.
If there is physical damage to the intermediate shaft, dealers will replace it.
Kia may also reimburse owners who already paid out of pocket for a related repair.
