Wilma Fay Rook, lovingly known as “Nanny”, of Powderly, passed away January 2, 2025 at the age of 95. She was born on April 28, 1929 in Paris, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Darrell “Chick” Rook, her parents, Clay Daughtrey and Theo (Roberts) Daughtrey, as well as her 5 brothers, Orie J. Daughtrey, Edwin Daughtrey, Glenn Daughtrey, Jaybo Daughtrey, Elvis Daughtrey, and 3 sisters, Margarette King, Jeannie Lynch, and Belle Shepard. Mrs. Rook is survived by her children, Glenna Miller (Vernon), Gretta McDowra (Brad) and Greg Rook (Melinda). She was a cherished Nanny to all of her 7 grandchildren: Mike (Shanna) Peace, Mark Peace, Garet Ingram, Kim Ford, Jennifer Taylor, Trevor (Caitlin) Rook and Grant Rook. 9 great-grandchildren: Rachel Peace, Kallie ( Sheldon ) Norred, Jonathan Peace, Cameron (Kristen) Ashton, Tyler (Kassidy) Ashton, Dakota (Bailee) Crawford and Breanna Peralta, Waylon Rook and Tucker Rook) and 9 great-great grandchildren (Ezra Norred, Lorenzo Peralta, Mateo Peralta, Copper Ashton, Kinslee Ashton, Jaxon Ashton, Hayden King, Harper King, and Hadli King). They were the center of her universe.
Fay graduated from PeeDee High School in Powderly in 1947 where she was a star basketball and volleyball player. She was a life-long member of the Powderly Church of God. She retired from Campbell Soup after approximately 20 years on the veg-prep line. She tirelessly cared for her mother Theo Daughtery, daily, for over 10 years while she was in the nursing home.
Fay’s home was her pride and joy and everyone was welcome. Her door was open to all at any time, day or night. She loved spending her time working in her yard, mowing her yard and pasture, fishing in her pond and riding on the golf cart through the pasture with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed making quilts with her church’s quilting group.
Pallbearers are Eric Clark, Bret Ashton, Chad Ward, Jay Daughtrey, Sonny Daughtrey, and Freddie Daughtrey.
Services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6 th at Paris Church of God with Rev. Mark Sanders and Rev. Wade White officiating. She will be laid to rest at Red Hill Cemetery next to her loving husband. The family will receive friends at Bright-Holland Funeral Home Sunday from 6 – 8 p.m.
