Following an audit of the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, records clerk Krystal Wilson was indicted on June 26, 2025, for First Degree Felony Theft after approximately $230,000 was found to be missing.
The assessment and audit was conducted following Sheriff Cody Shook taking office on January 1, 2025, to ensure that the “faith the county has placed in local law enforcement is well-earned.”
During the internal review, a discrepancy was discovered involving the handling of funds associated with inmate accounts and other third-party transactions.
The investigation revealed that Wilson was responsible for the approximately $230,000 unaccounted for, believed to have been taken between May 2021 and May 2025.
“Wilson was immediately removed from her duties, and all necessary steps were taken to restrict her access to county systems and facilities,” said Shook.
A criminal investigation was initiated at the request of Sheriff Shook and was conducted by the Texas Rangers.
On June 26, 2025, a Fannin County Grand Jury indicted Krystal Wilson for First Degree Felony Theft and she later turned herself in to the Texas Rangers and was booked into the Collin County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
“The Fannin County Sheriff’s Office worked closely with the Fannin County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, the County Auditor’s Office, the Texas Rangers, La Salie Corrections, and other supporting agencies throughout the investigation. We are especially grateful for their professionalism, cooperation, and commitment to justice during this process.”
Shook said a comprehensive financial plan has been developed to address the loss without placing any burden on Fannin County taxpayers.
“This corrective action ensures that county operations and services remain fully funded and unaffected. Your Fannin County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to accountability, transparency, and the responsible stewardship of public resources.”
