Fannin County, Texas — Commissioner Edwina Lane recently announced that she will soon be stepping down as Fannin County Commissioner for Precinct #1.
As a result, Fannin County Judge Newt Cunningham has begun the process of identifying qualified candidates to be considered for appointment as Commissioner Lane’s replacement.
This is being done pursuant to Section 87.042 of the Texas Local Government Code.
Judge Cunningham is asking for qualified candidates to step forward and submit applications for review. Applications will be made available to individuals seeking to be appointed to the position.
To be qualified, a candidate must meet the requirements set out at Section 141.001 of the Texas Election Code. The code generally provides that in order to be eligible for public office, a candidate must be a US citizen, over 18 years of age; must not have been determined to be mentally incapacitated or be convicted of an unpardoned felony; must have resided continuously in Texas for 12 months, and in Precinct #1 for 6 months.
Judge Cunningham will be naming a panel of advisors to assist him with the selection process and hopes to have the process completed within 30 to 40 days.
After stepping down, Commissioner Lane will continue in public service as Fannin County Purchasing Agent. Fannin County thanks her for her past service, and looks forward to her future service in the new position.
