The Detroit Community Garden and Education Center will hold its annual Free Vegetable Night & Open House on May 19 from 5-7 p.m.
The event is open to the public – you don’t have to live in Detroit.
“Our ag students built the garden in 2022 for our community and school with two grants that we applied for to pay for it. They have grown all the plants during their classes.”
Over the past six weeks, the students have grown over 7.200 vegetables in 6-packs (over 200 trays of -packs).
Packs include Jalapeno peppers, radish, squash, zucchini, roma tomato, Bradley tomato, cherry tomato, beefsteak tomato, cayenne peppers, okra, banana peppers, watermelon, cantaloupe, blue lake green beans, cabbage, burpless cucumbers, basil, and beets.
“There will be free vegetables, refreshments, visitation of the community garden and our greenhouse, helpful hints on how to grow your plants, and we welcome you to meet our Ag Class students who have built this and worked so hard over the past three years to make this possible.”
Each family that attends will be given 3 free flats (18 x 6-packs + 108) of vegetable plants of your choice to take home and start your own garden.
The event is being held at Detroit High School, 630 1st NW Street, Detroit – next to the greenhouse by the DHS gym.
