Shortly after 4:30 p.m. on May 4, the Honey Grove Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 7900 block of FM 100.
While en route, responding crews observed a large column of smoke and were advised by dispatch that all occupants had safely exited the residence, but two dogs were still believed to be inside.
Mutual aid was requested from the Dodd City Fire Department, Telephone Fire Department, and Tigertown Fire Department.
HGFD crews arrived on scene to find a single-story residence with heavy fire showing.
Firefighters initiated an aggressive fire attack while additional crews performed VES operations at the rear of the residence in an attempt to locate the missing animals.
During the search, one dog was located; however, it was unfortunately deceased.
Fire crews remained on scene for approximately three hours before the fire was declared extinguished.
