The Chicota Volunteer Fire Department’s Annual Pancake Breakfast is scheduled for this weekend, Saturday, May 25th, from 6:30 to 9 a.m.

There is no set cost for the breakfast, however, there will be a donations jar at the entrance for those looking to give.

“We hope to have as many people as possible join us for this breakfast,” said Shane McDowra, Chicota VFD Chief. “There isn’t a set number for how many we are expecting but we’re hoping to see around 200 people.”

It’s an all you can eat pancakes and sausage, as well as endless coffee, milk, and orange juice. All proceeds benefit the operations of the department.

The breakfast will be hosted at the Chicota Community Center, 100 CR 35860 in Chicota.

All five of the department’s fire trucks will be set out for display to viewers during the event.

McDowra said the department is close to receiving a grant from the Forestry Service for a new brush truck.

“The department is possibly looking at having to pay $18,000 out of our own pockets, so some the money raised at the breakfast will go toward matching the funds we have to raise. The rest of what is raised from the fundraiser will go toward our daily operational costs,” he added.

Chicota currently has 18-active volunteer firefighters, but according to Mcdowra, they are always looking for good men and women to join their ranks.

If you are interested in learning what it takes to become a volunteer firefighter, you can message the department on their Facebook page or you can head down to the community center on Saturday and have a chat to one of the volunteers over some hotcakes and bacon
