Nicholas Stan Crawford, 36, of Bonham, pled guilty to Attempt to Commit Burglary of a Habitation and Felony Criminal Mischief and was sentenced to 14 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division for on July 22, 2026. Judge Christina Tillett of the 336th District Court presided over the plea.
On February 26th law enforcement from both the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office and Trenton Police Department were dispatched to a reckless driver in a quiet neighborhood near County Road 4910. Concerned individuals initially called when they observed the defendant drive his pickup back and forth down a residential street at a high rate of speed, eventually driving wildly on the lawns of several individuals where he almost struck a home.
911 callers and neighbors continued to observe and the defendant eventually drove through a fence and struck a donkey. When a concerned neighbor came out to check on the situation, the defendant ran aggressively toward her. After telling the Defendant to stop and not come near her, she was able to retreat and lock herself in her home just before the Defendant attempted to unsuccessfully force himself through her door.
Ultimately, both county and local law enforcement arrived and quickly took the defendant into custody. He was extremely agitated, was irrational, and had symptoms consistent with methamphetamine consumption. The donkey was stunned but made a full recovery.
“The quick and decisive action of the home owners involved here, as well as law enforcement, resulted in a scenario where, fortunately, no one was hurt. Attempting to force yourself into someone’s home is never acceptable and should be met with severe penalties.” said First Assistant Criminal District Attorney Nathan Young. Assistant District Attorney Andy Garner added that “We appreciate the cooperation of law enforcement and the witnesses involved in this case during trial preparation. Ultimately, our office was able to secure a plea that was near the maximum sentence and also resulted in the Defendant waiving his right to appeal.”
