Bobbie was born in Cunningham, TX on July 8, 1933, To Harry and Letha Hatcher Slusher. Harry was a farmer all his life. Letha was a homemaker.
Bobbie passed from this world to her Heavenly reward on Thursday, January 16, 2025. Her life was celebrated at a private family service.
Bobbie was raised in Cunningham as a farm girl, helping her daddy in the cotton fields and her mother around the house. She attended school in that small farm town, playing basketball and cheerleading. She was very proud of her rural roots and later in life was quick to give a rendition of her high school fight song.
Bobbie had a voice like a songbird and frequently brought the special music at Calvary Baptist Church where she and her children attended when they were all young. She would also sing at “all day singings” when she was very young.
Bobbie married Billy Lee Holbert in 1952. To them were born Bonita, Tracy, and Bret. Billy died in 1983, many years after the marriage was dissolved.
Bobbie married Dale Smyers in 1971. They were married up until the time of his death, in 1980. Bobbie was preceded death by her parents, Harry and Letha, the father of her three children, husband Billy Lee Holbert, husband Dale Smyers, and brother Clyde Slusher and his wife, Bobbye, niece Stephanie McLaughlin, and brother in law, Charles Taylor.
She is survived by her sister Jackie Taylor and boys, Mike (Carrie, sons Charles and Grant), and Ford (Sandra, daughters Emily, Quincy, and Whitney), three children, Bonita Struve (George), Tracy Holbert (Cindy), and Bret Holbert (Sherrie), grandchildren Sarah Leonard (Christopher), Kate Struve (Frank Hettmer), Maddie Contois (Robbie), Seth Holbert, Ryan Wade (Jennifer), Meredith Millick (Matthew), Colt Holbert (Jerrika), Kyle Coston (Renee), great grandchildren Liam, Rowen, and Maeve Leonard, Owen Hettmer-Struve, and Theo Contois, Miles and Micah Millick, Gray Holbert, Travis (Jaci) and Kenley Coston, Avery and Caleb Wade, and great-great grandchildren, Carter and Cate Coston, nephews Jackie Lee Slusher (Jackie), Steve Slusher, and niece Janet Smith (Jackson), along with a host of grand nieces and nephews, and their kiddos.
Bobbie is also survived by a host of friends, including her dear friend and neighbor Eric Woods, who would visit with her, sing hymns and pray, and eventually became a caregiver.
Bobbie loved God and walked daily with Him, in good times and bad. She loved her friends, and especially her family. She took great pleasure in bragging on her kids, and their kids, etc. She spent a great deal of her life at ballgames, stock shows, school band concerts, swim meets, community theater plays, and many other events, watching and cheering on her kids and grandkids. Any time she could be involved in these activities she was eager to load up and go.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at Brentwood Terrace, Dr. Tom Troutt, and the On Call Hospice staff.
