The colors, architecture, history, food, landscapes and everyday beauty of Italy have inspired artists for centuries. Now, that inspiration comes home to Paris, Texas, in “Inspired by Italy: A Journey Through Art,” a special exhibition featuring artwork created by students, faculty and friends following their experiences traveling through Italy.
The exhibition invites the community to experience Italy through the eyes of artists—both emerging and established—as they interpret the places, people and moments that left an impression on them.
From the timeless streets of Florence to the canals of Venice, the dramatic landscapes of Tuscany and the grandeur of Italy’s churches, piazzas and palazzos, the exhibition explores how travel can transform the way we see the world—and how those experiences can become art.
More Than a Travel Experience
For the participating students, the journey was more than simply visiting famous destinations. Traveling through Italy provided an opportunity to study art and architecture firsthand, stand before masterpieces they had previously encountered only in books, sketch historic buildings, observe Italian culture and discover inspiration around every corner.
The resulting artwork reflects those experiences in a variety of styles and media.
The exhibition also brings together faculty members and friends of the program, creating an intergenerational conversation about the influence of travel and the enduring inspiration of Italy.
“Rather than attempting to recreate Italy exactly, the artists have interpreted what they experienced through their own individual perspectives.” said Lena Spencer, visual arts program coordinator.

The public is invited to attend the exhibition opening reception on October 27th, from 4:00-6:00pm. Guests will have the opportunity to meet participating artists, view the artwork and hear about the experiences that inspired the collection. The exhibition will run through November 19th, 2026
