North Lamar ISD has issued a statement following a video circulating online that shows two students attacking a classmate.
The 46-second video, reportedly recorded by a fellow student and shared online Tuesday, shows two students approaching a girl seated in a classroom and standing on either side of her.
One tells her to “get up,” later adding, “You either get up or I’m going to pull you up out of that chair.” The girl responds, “I’m not fighting nobody. I’m not going back to DAEP.”
One of the students then pushes the girl out of her chair while the other grabs her by the hair. Both students pull her to the ground and begin striking her with their fists as she screams.
No one is seen intervening in the video, while other students appear to watch the incident unfold.
Although the original post appears to have been taken down, outrage within the community continues, with many questioning whether enough action has been taken.
“North Lamar ISD is taking the issue very seriously. The district has taken appropriate administrative action and can not comment any further, due to confidentiality,” NLISD Superintendent Kelli Stewart told myparistexas.com on Wednesday.
No further details have been released regarding disciplinary action or possible law enforcement involvement.
