Fannin County Sheriff Cody Shook has successfully completed the 124th session of the National Sheriffs’ Institute (NSI) Leadership Development Course, held at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
The no-cost program is provided by the National Institute of Corrections, a division of the U.S. Department of Justice, in collaboration with the Major County Sheriffs of America. Sheriff Shook was selected alongside 22 other sheriffs from across the United States to participate in the highly regarded training.
The NSI is an executive-level leadership program designed specifically for sheriffs, focusing on the unique challenges and responsibilities of serving as both elected officials and chief executive officers of their respective agencies. Participants engage in in-depth assessments of their leadership styles, while developing strategies to effectively guide their offices and serve their communities.
Originally established in the early 1970s, the program was created to help sheriffs adapt to the evolving demands of law enforcement leadership. Today, it continues to provide advanced training, resources, and networking opportunities for sheriffs nationwide.
Sheriff Shook said he was proud to represent Fannin County on a national stage and emphasized the value of the experience.
“There were many programs, connections, and resources provided that will benefit us locally,” Shook said. “I look forward to using what I’ve learned to continue moving the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office in a positive direction.”
Officials say the training will help strengthen leadership and operations within the sheriff’s office, ultimately benefiting the residents of Fannin County.
