Chisum High School hosted The TAEA Region 8 VASE Art contest on Saturday February 28th in Paris, TX.
Fifteen schools submitted 295 artworks to be juried for the chance to earn a regional gold medal.
Chisum had 35 students and 49 artworks compete, of which 42 artworks received a regional gold medal.
Out of the 295 artworks only 22 were selected as state qualifiers to compete at the State VASE Art Event in San Marcos this April.
Chisum had four students and five artworks qualify for the State VASE Event: Ava Brown, Blaine Holland, Jade Morphew, and Gracyn Whitaker.
In addition to the contest, the event featured UT Tyler Art Professor Merrie Wright as a guest speaker.
Participating students included Clayton Birdsong, Jaydin Blackwelder, Ava Boone, Dakota Boren, Memphis Bridgers, Savannah Bridgers, Ava Brown, Antaneah Burton, Anzli Chapman, Chyanna Childres, Sabrina Dyck, Danielle Halliburton, Brynlee Hancock, Alando Harms, Daniel Henry, Blaine Holland, Jose Lazcano, Jade Morphew, Celesity Perry, Mariann Peters, Chloe Reimer, Zolee Rushin, Hannah Russell, Dominic Santana, Kamora Scott, Natosha Sessums, Haylea Sessums, Zariah Smith, Memphis Spangler, Maricruz Teran, Victor Vasquez, Zali Waldrip, Joycela Wall, Graycn Whitaker, and Teresa Zermeno.
“This is our fourth year to host the annual Region 8 VASE Art contest at Chisum High. For over thirty years the VASE program has shined a bright light on art students all over Texas. The contest celebrates individual creativity and self expression through the lens of art education, and offers a powerful enrichment experience.
