I am running for Lamar County Commissioner because I believe our county deserves steady, practical leadership rooted in experience, transparency, and a genuine commitment to the people who call this place home. Lamar County has been my home my entire life. It is where my wife and I have built our family, worked, invested in our community, and where I now hope to continue serving as county commissioner.
My wife, Jackie Sue, and I have been married for 27 years and currently attend Freedom Church. Together, we have raised our two sons here in the Faught community. Our oldest son, Keaton, is currently in graduate school studying to become a physical therapist, and our youngest, Koehler, is working locally while pursuing his goal of becoming a firefighter. Like many families in our county, we value hard work, service, and responsibility, and we are proud of the young men our sons have become.
Professionally, I bring hands-on experience that directly aligns with the responsibilities of a county commissioner. This includes extensive experience in road maintenance, budgeting, and team management, along with owning and operating my own business for 20 years. This hands-on experience has given me a clear understanding of how county government functions at the ground level and how important it is to make careful, informed decisions when working with limited resources.
County roads are essential to everyday life in Lamar County. They connect families, farms, businesses, schools, and emergency services. Maintaining them properly requires planning, accountability, and smart use of taxpayer dollars. I am well aware of the financial realities Lamar County faces. If elected, my approach will focus on making decisions based on facts and real needs, maintaining open and honest budgeting practices, and finding practical, cost-effective ways to improve our roads. I am committed to carrying forward the legacy that my father-in-law, Jackie Wheeler, established years ago.
Equally important to me is being accessible and accountable to the public. I believe local government works best when residents feel heard and informed. As county commissioner, I will listen, work hard, and remain committed to doing what is best for the entire county.
I also believe strongly in limiting unnecessary regulation. While some rules are necessary for safety and fairness, excessive regulation can stifle economic growth, burden small businesses, and restrict property owners from managing their own affairs. I will work to reduce bureaucratic obstacles, support local businesses, and promote a practical, common-sense approach to governance that respects individual freedom and encourages growth.
My faith and family have shaped my values and my belief that public service is about responsibility and stewardship. I view this role as an opportunity to serve my neighbors, do the right thing, and use good, common-sense judgment.
I respectfully ask for your support so that, together, we can continue building a strong future for Lamar County.
