The United Way of Lamar County is planning a Day of Action on Friday, October 31st from 8am-noon to help clean up at the historic Abandoned Black Cemetery.
Volunteers are needed to help with this project and can register by sending an email with their contact information to jenny.wilson@lamarcountyuw.org or by calling the United Way office at 903-784-6642.
The Abandoned Black Cemetery is located at 800 W. Center Street in Paris. Volunteers are asked to bring chainsaws, weed eaters, large shears, and rakes if they have them and are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and gloves.
United Way of Lamar County’s Executive Director Jenny Wilson stated, “This is such a great opportunity for our community to come together and spend a day volunteering. The discovery of this historic abandoned cemetery is incredibly interesting and important to our community’s story and heritage.”
Volunteers are asked to meet at the cemetery at 8am on October 31st and breakfast will be provided by the Credit Union of Texas.
