After a EF-3 tornado struck Lamar County on Friday afternoon, leaving more than 70 homes damaged or destroyed and 10 injuries, the community has come together to help those affected.
With so many donations and community members wanting to volunteer to help, the Lamar County Office of Emergency Management Tornado Disaster Response team has setup a Volunteer Resource Center at the old Shell Station Truck Stop, 2805 N. Main Street in Paris, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“At this time we do not need additional material items such as clothing, blankets, food, etc.,” said PIO volunteer with the Lamar County Office of Emergency Management Amanda Willows assisting the Department of Emergency Management. “Financial assistance for our victims is the primary need.”
A Tornado Response Fund has been opened by the United Way of Lamar County to help families who were affected by the tornado.
If you would like to donate to this fund please do so online at www.Lamarcountyuw.org or by mailing a donation to United Way of Lamar County, P.O. Box 1, Paris, Texas, 75461. Please add “tornado fund” to the memo on your check.
“If you have clothing or non-perishable food already collected for donation, it is being received at City Square, 2515 Bonham St. in Paris, Monday-Friday, 9a-6p. Please do not start collection efforts for those items if you haven’t already.”
