Greenville Middle School has increased security on campus today after a threatening message to “shoot up the school” was found on a bathroom wall on Tuesday evening.
“Tuesday evening, a staff member found a threatening message on a wall in a bathroom. The message was written in pencil, and it was a threat to shoot up the school. It was immediately reported to GISD Police and other leaders,” said GISD Police Chief Oscar Serrato.
Out of an abundance of caution, Serrato said the campus will be on heighted security alert today and the campus will be on lockout.
“At this time, there is no evidence that this is a viable threat, but we are taking it seriously and will be on high alert.”
Greenville ISD police are investigating and closely monitoring the campus.
There is currently extra security on campus and security footage and movement in the halls will be closely monitored.
“It is always our goal to have a smooth school day so that our students and staff can focus on teaching and learning. We ask you to work with us to keep our campus safe by talking with your child about this situation. ‘If you see something, say something’ is a wise philosophy that helps us protect all the members of our GMS family.”
If you or your child have any information that could help with the investigation, please contact Chief Oscar Serrato at serratoo@greenvilleisd.com. GISD has an anonymous tip line located on the GISD website. Tips may also be reported directly to GISD Police by calling 903-259-2664.
