It’s the end of an era for Family Video as the company announced Tuesday it will close its more than 250 stores nationwide.
“Today, I have to make the difficult announcement that we are closing all Family Video locations,” said Keith Hoogland, CEO of Highland Ventures, LTD, Family Video’s family company. “The impact of COVID-19, not only in foot traffic but also in the lack of movie releases, pushed us to the end of an era.”
Family Video has prided itself in 42 years of providing movie rentals to families all across the nation, alongside 800 locations with upwards of 7,000 square feet of video rental and retail. Family Video has also survived 10 years longer than Blockbuster, Movie Gallery and Hollywood Video.
“My proudest moments are those where our employees, at one point 10,000 of you, and customers came together to support the community through grass roots events, report card successes, holiday meal donations and the support of lymphoma research and education,” Hoogland said. “Your achievements are far reaching and impactful. … I want to thank you for being a part in creating the Family Video experience.”
According to Family Video’s website, the last day for movie rentals are Wednesday, Jan. 6. Stores will be officially closed once all in-store items are sold.
Closing store hours will be noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
