The 32nd Annual “Uncle Jesse’s Big Mouth Big Bass Classic” has been set for Saturday, May 4th, from 6 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Pat Mayse Lake.

The tournament originated back in the late 1980’s when Denver “Uncle Jesse” Pyle of the Dukes of Hazard and a group of local businessmen got together and put a tournament together.

Denver was on hand for many of the tournaments shaking hands, signing autographs, hugging kids and helping in every way, until his death in 1998. He, along with his lovely wife, Tippi, never asked, nor received reimbursement for their participation.

Denver’s one request was that all net proceeds from the tournament go directly to benefit children of the county with special needs. Tippi continues to come to the tournament and enjoys seeing the difference that this organization has made in Lamar County.

Tournament proceeds are handled through Denver Pyle’s Children’s Charities, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, with a local board of directors committed to seeing that funds benefit children, not administrative costs.

The tournament attracts over 300 anglers and a large number of fans and spectators each year and is held at Pat Mayse Lake with the permission of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Many area businesses and volunteers help make this a real angler’s event and a fun day for the fans and spectators.

Individuals and teams are welcome to register and participate. The cost for an individual is $50 and $225 for a 4 man team.

Pick up your registration forms at Lamar County Chamber of Commerce, Brannan’s Bass Shop, Mike’s Paint and Body, Liberty National Bank or on our Facebook page.

Lucky Duck’s’ on the water again this year sponsored by Paris Ford. Look for the ducks on the lake, only one per registered fisherman, bring it to the weigh-in between noon and 3 p.m. to collect your prize.

The ‘Fisherman’s Hot Seat’ will be back this year to highlight the angler that is currently in the lead with the largest bass. This could change with every fisherman or not very much at all if a large bass is weighed in first. The hot seat is sponsored by Liberty National Bank.

Sonic Drive-Ins and Brannan’s Bass Shop are the major sponsors for the tournament.

Denver Pyle’s Children’s Charities has helped many local children’s non-profit organizations over the last 31 years and will continue to do so.

The Charities Board carefully studies each funding request to ensure that the objectives of the Foundation are being followed.

Keep in mind that 100% of the monies raised go towards helping kids in our community.

This year’s sponsors are Lamar National Bank, First Federal Community Bank, Mikes Paint & Body, HWH, Paris Chevrolet, Printworks, Custom Angle Rods, Days Inn, Portable Storage Solutions, Lamar County Visitors & Convention Council, K95.5. And already mentioned Liberty National Bank, Paris Ford, Brannan’s Bass Shop and Sonic Drive-Ins.
