“ … you will be laid off from your position … on Dec. 11, 2020.”
These words were read throughout Turner Industries in Paris earlier today as employees were hand delivered the Large Scale Reduction in Force memo.
Though these layoffs are expected to be temporary, according to the memo, it’s unknown for how long “due to the unpredictable nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, the decrease in oil prices, and the resulting market impacts.”
“Current economic conditions and the continued adverse impacts resulting from the declaration of the Coronavirus as a global pandemic has created and continues to produce impossibly unpredictable business circumstances,” the letter states. “These circumstances have resulted in a greatly diminished demand for fabricated piping and impacts Turner’s ability to continue operations at the Facility.”
Plant Manager Chris Bailey was unavailable for comments prior to publication.
