North Lamar High School senior Hayden Miller recently enlisted with the Texas Army National Guard.
“Hayden scored very well on the ASVAB and because of his talent in the mechanical trades, he was able to enlist in the Texas Army National Guard as a 15U which is a Helicopter Repairer,” said SSG Cody J. Henry.
Miller will attend basic training this summer and continue on to on-the-job training that will take approximately 30 weeks.
“Hayden had his choice of jobs with a bonus of $20,000 but decided on a job skill that he found interesting.”
Miller, 17, is a tuba player in the North Lamar Band and competes for the high school in shop classes. His future plans are to graduate high school and complete his initial training with the Texas Army National Guard.
Since his service is part-time, Miller plans to use his National Guard Education Funds to attend a technical college while serving in the Guard.
