North Lamar Independent School District released its official high school football and volleyball regular-season schedules for the upcoming 2020 season. Since North Lamar is a Class 4A high school, it is allowed to begin its fall sports on time. Both schedules can be viewed online at www.northlamar.net.
Following a preseason scrimmage day at Chisum High School on Thursday, the Pantherettes will open up their regular season with a doubleheader Tuesday, Aug. 11 against Van and Edgewood at Van High School, while North Lamar will begin its district slate at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22 at Liberty-Eylau.
Meanwhile, the Panthers football team will kick off the 2020 season at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28 at Krum. Two weeks later, the Panthers will play their homecoming game at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11 at home against Community. Later in the year, North Lamar will open up District 8-4A, Division II competition at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Liberty-Eylau at R.L. Maddox Field.
Football two-a-days and volleyball practice began Monday, but NLISD superintendent Kelli Stewart recently announced three school staff members tested positive for COVID-19. With that, she said the school is thoroughly cleaning its facilities and more information on a safe return to resume practice along with additional back-to-school-plan details will be announced at a later date.
