Tax season is upon us and for some households, the stress of filing and the money it takes from you to pay an accountant can make the whole process very uninviting.

However, there are options for households who earn under $58,000 per year to get help in filing your taxes and also avoid some of the stress of how you will pay for it.

myFreeTaxes.com is a site that is powered by United Way and H&R Block

“All income levels are eligible to file both your federal and state returns for free using MyFreeTaxes.com. This is the only free, national, online tax filing product offered by a nonprofit. United Way has made it available to over 100 million U.S. taxpayers as part of our fight for the financial stability of every person in every community,” explained on the website.

The site further explains that some “free” tax preparation products only offer federal and not state filings, or they charge extra for anything beyond the most basic forms.

The MyFreeTaxes is completely free for individuals and families this year unless you need schedule C; Schedule D; or Schedule E.

Should you choose to use MyFreeTaxes this year, know that the site is powered by H&R Block’s premium online tax filing software. From MyFreeTaxes.com, you will be linked to H&R Block’s account creation page to set up your free e-filing account. Once your account is created, you will see the MyFreeTaxes logo on every page of the filing software.

United Way of Lamar County is also offering services at their offices to ensure everyone can confidently file their taxes this season.

“We are offering VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) at the UWLC Office Mondays and Fridays Feb. 10 through March 23rd,’ they said on their Facebook page.

To make an appointment in person you can call 903-784-6642.
