A woman and her two-year old child were pronounced deceased on Saturday after police found them, and a six-year old who is expected to make a full recovery, unresponsive in their vehicle.
“An investigation by police determined that no foul play was involved,” said the Hugo Police Department.
Around 7:30 p.m., the Hugo Police Department received a call requesting officers to attempt to locate an overdue motorist.
“Richard Stevens was unable to contact his wife, Tamara Higgins and two minor children by phone.”
Police located the vehicle driven by Higgins in the Hugo Walmart parking lot around 7:45 p.m. and discovered that Higgins and the two children were unresponsive.
Officers began life saving measures and requested Choctaw County EMS.
“Higgins and her two-year old child were later pronounced deceased at Choctaw Memorial Hospital. The other child, age 6 was flown to a Dallas area Hospital and has since been released and is expected to make a full recovery.”
Police said it is believed that carbon monoxide poisoning lead to the deaths but the official cause of death will be released at a later date by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
