Wanda Faye Kent, 90, of Paris, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, at Paris Regional Health while surrounded by her family.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28th at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Kent, the daughter of Ansel Harris Holloway & Cleo Pauline Schillings Holloway, was born Dec. 15, 1932, in Orange, TX.
On Sept. 17, 1949, she married Marshall H. Kent, Jr. at Immanuel Baptist Church in Paris building almost 69 years of family and memories before his death on July 22, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law & mother-in-law, Marshall H. Kent, Sr. & Winnie Kent, a brother, Ray Holloway, and a sister-in-law, Mattie VanHoose.
Survivors include four children, Jency Cole & husband Danny, Larry Kent & wife Mary, Susie Newberry & husband Jerry, and Liz Spencer & husband Stanley, grandchildren, Chad Cole & wife Renee, Todd Cole & wife Mendy, Zak Kent & wife Trisha, Shana Vickers & husband Kris, Cody Newberry & wife Desiree, Jessica Martin & husband Trevor, Levi Nichols & fiancé Kassadi, and Dylan Spencer & wife Sarah, great grandchildren, Lacie Dixon & husband Regan, Katie Boatner & husband Dylan, Claire Cole, Kelby Cole, Cade Cole, Grace Kent, Marshall Kent, Ruthia Kent, Thaddeus Kent, Maddox Vickers, Kendal Vickers, Anlyn Newberry, Hannah Newberry, Lillian Newberry, Sophia Newberry, Nathaniel Spencer, Jeremiah Spencer, Christina Spencer, Hosea Spencer, and Roxie Spencer, great great grandchildren, Hayes Dixon, Crew Boatner, Whitt Dixon, and Cord Boatner, a sister, Paula Babiash & husband Jeff, and a sister-in-law, Rose Holloway along with many nieces & nephews and a host of friends.
Wanda went to nursing school at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she trained under the Nuns. She respected them and learned a plethora of knowledge from their teaching and example. She was an LVN in Labor & Delivery for a number of years and retired as Director of Nursing from long term care facilities.
She and her husband, Marshall, traveled across the United States going to car auctions. Marshall was her rock and her foundation.
From the early age of 13, she played the piano at Ramseur Baptist Church before moving to Immanuel Baptist Church when she met Marshall.
Wanda was passionate about rearing her children and being in their lives. She was very active in PTA when her children were in school.
Casket bearers will be: Zak Kent, Chad Cole, Todd Cole, Kris Vickers, Cody Newberry, Levi Nichols, Dylan Spencer, and Trevor Martin.
The family would like to extend gratitude and appreciation to Kathy Raper for her dedicated care of Wanda and for treating her as if she were her own mother. Appreciation is extended to the 4th floor nursing staff at Paris Regional Health with special thanks to Hannah and Cadle for the attention and loving care given their mother.
