Vertis Donald “Donnie” Helm, 82, of Direct passed away Monday, June 25, 2018.
Funeral services will be held at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home at 11:00 am Thursday, June 28 with Rev. Kevin Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour prior to service from 10:00 until 11:00.
Donnie was born August 27, 1935, at home in Direct a son of Abner D. and Corine Copening Helm. He married Glenda Thompson at Forest Chapel on April 2, 1955. He was a supervisor at UARCO, Inc. until his retirement. He was a long time member of the Direct Fire Department and Direct Baptist Church where he taught the men’s Sunday School Class.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Helm; brothers, Delbert, Kenneth, M.L., and Wayne Helm.
He is survived by a daughter Sherry Moore and husband William “Jr.” Moore; grandchildren Ross Moore and wife Kala, Ramey Moore and wife Stephanie; 7 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Kalyn, Roan, Judah, Will, Reece and Noah Moore; sister Elsie Parson and a brother-in-law Loyd Thompson.
Pallbearers will be Phil Thompson, Roger Thompson, Joel Sanders, Ross Dejoux, Mike Lane, and Robert Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons Will Moore, Reece Moore, Roan Moore, Judah Moore, and Noah Moore.
