The Texas Department of Transportation is expected to begin work on closing a dangerous turnaround on southeast loop 286 today.
The turnaround is located on the southeast side of Loop 286 in front of RK Hall across from Paris Towne Center.
Earlier reports Sunday suggested the turnaround was in front of Home Depot and Dairy Queen on the northeast side of the loop, however, Paris Police Chief Bob Hundley confirmed it is not in that area at this time.
“TxDOT is looking at several other crossovers to close, but those are in the future, nothing soon,” said Hundley.
City and state officials have deemed this turnaround to be unsafe. There have been a number of wrecks in the past two years at this turnaround.
“A lot of people trying to exit the shopping center cut across the two southbound lanes of the loop to this turnaround.”
